So if your ever going to cycle through Poland, don’t go by the main roads, take the scenic (safe) route. I got lost half way between Poznan and Wroclaw so I asked a local nearby who spoke quite good English. I said I want to go here and pointed on the map. She said you can go that way and pointed down the street but I knew she meant the main road. So I asked are you sure that I can cycle on this road? But I think she must have translated it as ‘Will I die if I go on this road? – because she said yes. And it was hell. I wish I could have taken a picture to show you how bad it was, but I couldn’t stop anywhere because the road was so narrow and full of lorries.
Anyway I found a nice place to camp on a farm. There was an unused field completely surrounded by trees, and little Bambi animals running around.
My tranquility was however short lived when shortly after I woke up I saw a hare jumping across the road only to be obliterated by a jeep. Then I had to cycle past the remains. Yummy.
I made it safely to Wroclaw today. Some of the roads in the countryside are quite chilled out. I can only hope I find more of these to get from Poland to the Czech Republic.
