I had the pleasure of taking some really nice cycle tracks yesterday around the wine region of the Czech Republic (thanks for the tip Petr!). The government has sponsored the development of the region and has installed over 1000km of cycle tracks. They aren’t really direct routes to anywhere, it’s more of a scenic thing. There are many castles and palaces in the area you can visit, most at least a few hundred years old. But the really cool thing about it is there are wine cellars dotted all around and you don’t need to look far for some wine tasting or to buy a bottle. Unfortunately at the weekend most of the wine tasting is closed but I managed to buy a sneaky bottle and I’ve cracked it open now, in the hostel in Vienna. It’s actually pretty good. It was nice to buy a bottle and then cycle past the field where the grapes were grown. Just before I set up camp next to a random vineyard I seen the most amazing sky just after sunset next to the Nové Mlýny reservoir. It made my day after all the rain.
So this morning I packed up, whizzed past the old checkpoints and crossed the border into Austria! Goodbye Czechland!
