I stayed in a forest near Brandenburg last night. I think it was the most horrible night I’ve had so far. As I was pitching my tent I noticed a few mosquitoes about and I was like bummer, so I put on some repellent stuff and carried on. Then there was more so I put on some more repellent and was like it’s cool, no big deal. So it was dark after I pitched my tent and was about to make dinner when millions of them just started coming around me. So I built a fire and stood in the smoke but it didn’t work, they just came after me when I stepped out again. I couldn’t even make my dinner I had to just get in my tent and eat what I had on me (bread). I left most stuff attached to my bike and couldn’t be bothered being bitten to get most of it so I just slept with the basics. I thought they would probably go away after a while but they must have been able to smell me through the tent. More and more kept coming until there was an army of mosquitoes outside my tent and all I could hear was a collective buzzing noise all night. Some managed to get inside the waterproof part of the tent and just sat there waiting for me. I reckon there was around a hundred in total. Maybe more.
Enter: Operation take a piss
This is what I had to do everytime I left the tent.
So just now I’m chilling in a cafe in Brandenburg enjoying the lack of insects here. Potsdam tomorrow should be good. Meeting some people who are letting me stay for the night and then it’s off to Berlin the day after!
